CAP’s Register Descriptions
- General Register (Registered): Individuals registered on the general register have earned a post-graduate degree in psychology that meets the academic requirements established by Council, have successfully completed the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, the ethics and jurisprudence examination, and have successfully completed 1600 hours of supervised (evaluated) practice under the supervision of a registered psychologist. Individuals on the general register are permitted to practice independently.

Provisional Register: Individuals registered on the provisional register have fulfilled the academic requirements for registration but have not yet completed all of the following:
- 1600 hours of supervised (evaluated) practice;
- passed the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology; and
- passed the ethics and jurisprudence examination.
- Courtesy Register: Individuals registered on the courtesy register are registered as a psychologist or its equivalent in good standing in another jurisdiction. Individuals on this register require registration in Alberta on a temporary basis, typically for a specified purpose and for a period of time. Individuals remain on the courtesy register for a maximum of one year.
